Job Summary


Position Overview


The University of Michigan Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is seeking a talented full-time clinical track faculty member to participate in the clinical, administrative, and teaching aspects of the Child Psychiatry Program with specific focus on infant and early childhood mental health. The applicant will be an active participant in the expansion of our child psychiatry specialty clinic and services (Infant and Early Childhood Clinic/IECC), as well as in integrated care activities involving primary care clinics across the health system. In addition, this faculty member will be involved in telepsychiatry and phone consultation serving primary care providers and allied health professionals across the state with an emphasis on infant and early childhood mental health. The candidate will join a dynamic group of faculty, partnering with a leadership team that values clinical and educational excellence and innovation. This position will report through the Women and Infant Mental Health Program Directors in Ambulatory Psychiatry and the Child Psychiatry Section.


The faculty member will work closely with a dynamic team of faculty and staff members in the Women & Infants Mental Health Program and across the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section. Additionally, they will provide teaching to fellows and residents at the University of Michigan. Call expectations are currently 1 weekend in 12. Opportunities for clinical research and quality improvement are available for interested faculty.


Educational Activities


Outpatient supervisor and preceptor for child psychiatry fellows, psychiatric house staff, mid-level providers, pediatric house staff and medical students. Didactic lectures for pediatricians, medical students, general psychiatry/pediatric residents, child psychiatry fellows, clinical skills verification as needed. There will be opportunities to teach in core curriculum, medical student teaching, and journal club. The successful candidate will be involved in Resident recruitment and interviewing process.




The successful candidate will be expected to attend Faculty Meetings within the Department of Psychiatry; at minimum this will include regular meetings of the early childhood team, Academic Staff, All-Staff, Physicians Meetings, and other administrative meetings deemed necessary by their reporting supervisor. In addition to timely attention to pertinent administrative work (e.g., electronic medical record and inbasket monitoring, phone calls, letters, records, e-mails, etc.), the new faculty member will participate in all relevant quality improvement initiatives and activities.


Required Qualifications


A Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathy is required. Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan is necessary. Completion of a residency in Psychiatry is required. Must be board certified or board eligible in Child Psychiatry. Applicants must have demonstrated promise for an academic career that emphasizes clinical care, teaching and administration. Superior clinical competencies and master teacher skills are necessary and be an active member in good standing of the University of Michigan Medical Staff. The successful candidate should have an interest in the delivery of exceptional inpatient psychiatric services. Comfort with providing psychiatric care to patients with significant physical health or developmental needs is necessary.
