Research Scientist in Network and Population-based fMRI analysis

Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.

We are looking to recruit a Research Scientist who can work independently to implement a research study funded by the JABBS Foundation.

Although the work will be within Dr Kyle Pattinson's research group, there are close links with the Analysis Group at the FMRIB Centre (part of the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging), and the Oxford Big Data Institute.

The post involves using brain imaging data to better understand breathlessness perception networks, focusing on the midbrain periaqueductal gray. To achieve this, data to be analysed includes both population based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and behavioural data from the UK Biobank, as well as high-resolution, 7 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI breathlessness task data collected in our laboratory.

We are looking for an individual with experience of MRI analysis, who would be comfortable working with both big data and detailed brain interoception network models. A background in psychology or physiology would be helpful.

The successful candidate will have a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline. Experience with MRI analysis software (in particular FSL and SPM). Excellent data management and communication skills, including the ability to write for publication. Experience of handling and analysing Big Data, using platforms such as MATLAB, R etc. and knowledge of current interoceptive literature and associated brain networks would also be desirable.

This is a full-time post fixed for 1 year in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 9 February 2018 will be considered.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy has changed. With effect from 1 October 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above have a retirement age of the 30 September before the 69th birthday. All employees at Grades 1-7 do not have a set retirement age.
