The Department of Psychology (http://www.ecu.edu/psyc) is one of 16 departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University (ECU), Greenville, NC. East Carolina University is the third-largest university in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system with an enrollment of more than 29,000 students. ECU is designated as both a doctoral university with higher research activity, as well as a community-engaged university, and offers more than 100 bachelor's degree programs, more than 70 master's degree programs, 17 doctoral programs, and 2 first professional degree programs (MD, DDS). ECU is the only UNC system institution with professional programs in medicine, dental medicine, and engineering, and it graduates the largest number of nurses and teachers in the state of North Carolina. Greenville is a thriving university town of nearly 100,000, with convenient access to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, as well as the beaches of the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast.

The Department of Psychology is home to one of ECU's most popular majors, with approximately 800 undergraduate students. The Department also has an enrollment of nearly 100 graduate students and offers a Master's degree in Industrial/ Organizational Psychology as well as a Master's degree with Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology. The Department has a PhD program in Health Psychology with concentrations in Clinical Health Psychology, Pediatric School Psychology, and Occupational Health Psychology. Both the Clinical Health Psychology and Pediatric School Psychology programs are fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. The Department also participates in an interdisciplinary BA/BS program in Neuroscience and offers a graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods for the Social Sciences. The Department's 31 full-time faculty include exemplary scholars and teachers. Psychology faculty routinely receive College and University-level teaching awards and are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarship and professional leadership. Faculty have recently received grants funded from HRSA, IES, NCI, NHLBI, NIMH, and NSF. Finally, faculty routinely collaborate across ECU's two campuses, and have established connections with Criminal Justice, Dental Medicine, Education, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Cardiology.

Job Duties

The Department of Psychology seeks to fill the position of department chair with an anticipated start date as early as July 1, 2019 but no later than August 12, 2019. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Professor. This is a 12-month position. The Chair's responsibilities include: leading the Department in refining and implementing its strategic plan; promoting excellence in faculty research and teaching; ensuring the quality and integrity of the Department's undergraduate and graduate degree programs; supporting departmental, college, and university policies and standards; and fostering collegial relationships in departmental governance. The chair is expected to spend at least 50% of their effort on administration and leadership duties, with the remaining 50% devoted to research, teaching, and service.

Minimum Education/Experience

Qualifications for the position include: (1) a Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in Psychology or a closely related discipline, such as neuroscience, organizational behavior and education, or public health; (2) a strong record of scholarly publications and productivity; (3) demonstrated excellence in teaching and service; (4) administrative experience and evidence of leadership and management skills commensurate with the position; and (5) a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity.

The ideal candidate will have substantial prior administrative and leadership experience. Further, the ideal candidate will have documented prior success in developing and executing initiatives to facilitate growth and excellence in faculty research productivity, engaged scholarship, and teaching excellence.
