Position Summary

The School Psychology program at Michigan State University (education.msu.edu/cepse/school-psychology) invites applications for an assistant or associate professor. We seek candidates with exceptional promise to understand and improve the delivery of mental health services to school-aged populations, and are open to individuals with a broad range of professional experiences including, but not limited to, school-based practitioners, clinical child and adolescent practitioners, and researchers. The position is a 9-month tenure system appointment within the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education (CEPSE) with an August 16, 2019 start date.

 

The MSU School Psychology program offers graduate training at both the doctoral (Ph.D.) and educational specialist (Ed.S.) levels. Each of these programs is accredited or approved by the corresponding national organizations (i.e., American Psychological Association and National Association of School Psychologists, respectively). These programs produce researchers, university faculty, and practitioner-leaders who are trained according to a scientist-scholar-practitioner model, with a particular emphasis on valuing the rich diversity of learners. The programs emphasize rigorous scholarship and training, as well as diverse perspectives on a variety of assessment, intervention, and consultation practices. Our recent program graduates have helped to diversity the field of school psychology and have secured leadership positions in school, community, hospital, and university settings.

 

Description of Duties:

  • Provide meaningful scholarly contributions that connect to the field of school psychology, including the development of a nationally recognized, externally funded program of research
  • Teach doctoral, specialist, and master’s level courses in areas of expertise and according to program curricular needs, with an ability to teach in all modalities (face-to-face and online)
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor graduate students at the doctoral level

Participate in department, college, university, professional, and/or community service activities  

Required Degree

Doctorate -School Psychology or related field

 

Minimum Requirements

Potential to engage in scholarly activity relevant to school psychology, a doctoral degree (or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment)  in school psychology or a related field (i.e., counseling or clinical psychology) from an APA-accredited program, and eligibility for future licensure as a psychologist in Michigan.  They also must show potential to engage in scholarly activity relevant to school psychology and have eligibility for future licensure as a psychologist in Michigan.

 

Desired Qualifications

We seek candidates who have research, teaching, and/or clinical experience with diverse school-age populations in the areas of assessment, intervention, and/or consultation. In addition, ideal candidates are committed to:

  • Promoting inclusive and culturally responsive research, teaching, and clinical practices;
  • Developing and maintaining an active research program that is supported by external funding; and
  • Providing quality mentoring and supervision at the graduate level.
