Duties and Responsibilities

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow in Linking Embedding Spaces in Prof Love’s laboratory ( in the Research Department of Experimental Psychology at UCL.


The post holder will develop computational models of cognitive processes, evaluate these models through simulation model selection techniques, relate cognitive models and deep learning models to brain imaging and other data sources, provide programming support, analyse data, and prepare results for publication. The candidate should have an interest (if not experience) in linking aspects of formal models with brain imaging data, as well as working with large real-world data sources, such as ImageNet, video, and consumer behaviour. The emphasis is on deriving psychologically-constrained embedding spaces.


This post is funded for 12 months, in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will have PhD in Computer Science, Psychology, or related field with the dissertation work demonstrating computational and mathematical proficiency in line with the demands of this post. Competitive applicants will be well versed with Bayesian methods (e.g., MCMC, hierarchal modelling), machine learning basics, deep learning, scientific computing in Python, and related methods. Experience analysing brain imaging data is not required, but desirable.
