Vacancy Overview

 

Fixed Term, Full-Time Contract for 22 months at 100% FTE, or two part-time posts at 50% FTE may be considered.

 

The University of Warwick is seeking to appoint a full-time, postdoctoral researcher for 22 months based at the Department of Psychology, as part of the research grant ‘Life Course Dynamics after Preterm Birth – Protective Factors for Social and Educational Transitions, Health, and Prosperity (PREMLIFE)’ funded by NORFACE (New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency Cooperation in Europe) related to the DIAL research programme (Dynamics of Inequality Across the Life-course: structures and processes).

 

The Project management team consists of the coordinator Dr Sakari Lemola (University of Warwick), Prof Dieter Wolke (University of Warwick), Prof Katri Räikkönen (University of Helsinki), and Prof Daniel Schnitzlein (Leibniz University Hannover), and Dr Eero Kajantie (National Institute for Health and Welfare, Helsinki).

 

The successful candidate will be prepared to begin as soon as possible after 1st April 2019. All applications must be made online and accompanied by a CV and covering letter.

 

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£29,515). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,395 pa).

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE 

The researcher will conduct data analysis and produce publications on combined datasets of studies on the development after preterm birth. The focus will be on factors providing protection and increase resilience for preterm children’s life course outcomes. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. To lead the writing of major deliverables for the project and to make a major contribution to the writing of research articles for major journals in the field. 

2. To plan, coordinate, and conduct the harmonization of data from several cohort studies for analysis together with data managers and project partners. 

3. To conduct advanced statistical analysis including individual participant meta-analysis, multiple regressions, fixed effects regression models, structural equation models. 

4. To conduct missing data analysis. 

5. To take on coordination duties between partners with the Work package lead by Dr Lemola. 

6. To play an active role in the research group, organising group meetings and activities. 

7. To work with and instruct postgraduate research assistants. 

8. To participate in European partner meetings and travel to discuss data transfers and analysis with study partners as needed. 

9. To ensure dissemination of results through a wide variety of routes, and to a range of audiences.

Essential Criteria 1

Good honours degree in Psychology, Statistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics or related fields (a)

Completed or nearly completed PhD working with empirical data or statistical modelling (e.g. psychology, social sciences, epidemiology or similar) (a)

Proven knowledge of use of advanced statistical methods and application in quantitative research (a) (c) (d)

Use and familiarity with statistical packages such as STATA, R, SPSS, SAS, MPlus or similar (a) (c)
