The role

The role of Postdoctoral Research Fellow will collaborate in research with the Head of the School of Psychology, Professor Virginia Slaughter. The successful applicant is expected to develop research projects relating to Professor Slaughter’s ongoing research interests in the area of theory-of-mind development and social functioning in typically-developing children and those on the Autism Spectrum.


The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for collaboratively designing the research and managing research projects day-to-day, including participant recruitment and testing, data coding and analysis, and assisting in literature review and report writing for publication. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will also be asked to supervise or co-supervise research students in developmental psychology, and to apply for both collaborative and independent research funding.


The person

This position will be filled by a promising early career scholar (no more than 3 years post PhD), who will apply for an external fellowship before the end of the 2 year contract. Applicants should possess a PhD (or PhD nearing completion) in Developmental Psychology. Demonstrated proficiency carrying out literature reviews within academic databases is essential, as is a developing track record in research publications in national and international journals.


The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to successfully test young children in experimental settings and experience working with children who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.


A sound understanding of the research literature on the development on theory-of-mind development is desirable.

This is a full time role, however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for two years at Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range of $66,283.50 - $89,285.83 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $77,551.69 - $104,464.42 p.a.).
