The Department of Psychology at the University of Bath is completing a significant expansion. Research in the department occurs across more than six sub-disciplines in psychology, including clinical, cognitive, developmental, environmental, health, and social, using diverse methods in a new purpose-built £30 million building, containing 10,000 square feet of state-of-the-art labs for interview, social group observation, EEG/ERP, virtual reality, psychobiology, eye-tracking, pain, cross-modal and computerised testing.

This post will support our new MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology with Counselling. Research excellence should be demonstrated broadly within applied forensic psychology, and applicants must have the capacity to research and teach in applied forensic psychology and counselling at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. We will also be interested in candidates who are able to provide advanced research methods training.

The Department has a tradition of theoretically informed applied psychology: http://www.bath.ac.uk/psychology/. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, staff were returned in different units of assessment, the largest of which (Allied Health Professions) obtained the highest REF2014 rating across the University. The University was ranked 12th overall in the UK in REF2014. The Department was recently ranked 1st in the Guardian league table and 2nd in the Complete University Guide (in association with The Independent), and The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide.

15 minutes from Bristol by train and 90 minutes from London and Oxford, the University is situated in the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath and is part of the Great Western Four group of Universities (with Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter). Bath is also a member of the Economic and Social Research Council South West Doctoral Training Centre.

Informal enquiries can be directed to the Deputy Head of Department, Professor Julie Barnett (j.c.barnett@bath.ac.uk; + 44 (0)1225 383167) or to the Head of Department, Professor Greg Maio (g.r.maio@bath.ac.uk; +44 (0)1225 384647).

Both the Department of Psychology and the University of Bath have a Bronze award from the Athena SWAN Charter Scheme. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment.
