DESCRIPTION

An Assistant Project Scientist is needed for an appointment to design and execute experiments and research projects within the Neuromodulation Division at Semel Institute. The role of the Assistant Project Scientist will include the following:

  1. Incumbent will design, plan, launch, and execute experiments by performing in-depth statistical analysis of clinical neurophysiology and brain stimulation data.
  2. Incumbent will be responsible for TMS-EEG and MRI data preprocessing and analysis.
  3. Incumbent will advise investigators regarding the most current and appropriate statistical methods for testing research hypotheses.
  4. Incumbent will plan and submit grants, and prepare manuscripts and brief reports based on statistical analysis of research data.
  5. Incumbent will determine specific statistical methods based on the outcome type, distribution of data and study design.
  6. Incumbent will prepare summaries, graphs, tables and interpretation of data for periodic reports, publications and presentations.
  7. Incumbent will function as an effective member of a data-management/research team.
  8. Incumbent will supervise simple analyses and data work conducted by Programmer Analyst III, SRP and/or graduate students.
  9. Incumbent will respond to data analyses requests from investigators on an as-needed basis and communicate with collaborators.
  10. Incumbent will attend internal research meetings of the Neuromodulation faculty, journal clubs, and invited faculty seminars.
  11. Incumbent will attend workshops on cutting edge neuroscientific methods and prepare posters for conferences.

 

The minimum educational requirement is a Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, computer science or related fields. Knowledge of MATLAB, EEGLAB, FSL, R software is required.

 

Must have high level of knowledge and experience in statistical modeling and analysis for research projections, knowledge of designing research studies and methodology; and experience in utilizing machine learning methods for data analysis.

 

Experience with TMS-EEG data and especially TMS-induced artifact processing, as well as Python programming skills are desirable.
