Position description

Assistant Health Sciences Clinical Professor – Early Psychosis

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time academic position at the level of Assistant Health Sciences Clinical Professor. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in psychology, social work, or a closely related field; appropriate post-doctoral training; and extensive experience of implementing and evaluating interventions across various community and clinical settings using quantitative and qualitative methods. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a broad commitment to mental health services research and implementation science, with experience in providing and examining peer-based mental health services as well as development of new services in rural and under-resourced communities. The candidate must be able to demonstrate expertise at utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods, as evidenced by their publication record. The candidate must have a consistent track record of collaborating successfully with community providers in both research and program evaluation. Teaching or supervisory experience of post-doctoral scholars, residents, or fellows is preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform teaching, research, program evaluations, and university and public service with expertise in early psychosis, implementation science; evaluating novel interventions for SMI, substance use disorder, and homelessness; and evaluation of peer-based services. A minimum of 50% of time will be spent in the research setting, with other activities in the domains of teaching, service, and clinical supervision.

Modes of teaching include lectures, formal seminars, supervision in research and clinical settings, and in-service training. This individual will join the leadership of an active and rapidly expanding research program focusing on mental health services research.


Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• PhD in Psychology, Social Work, or a related science.
• At least 1-year post-doctoral experience in a closely related field.
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with multivariate statistical methods, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations utilizing these methods.
• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience using statistical programming packages, such as SPSS, SASS, Stata, or closely related program.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating peer-based mental health services and/or evaluating the development new services in rural and under-resourced communities.
• Experience collaborating successfully with community mental health providers in both research and program evaluation.
• Advanced knowledge of the mental health services landscape of California, with a special focus on early psychosis services.
• Licensed or credentialed to provide mental health services in an outpatient setting.

Preferred qualifications

• Teaching or supervisory experience of post-doctoral scholars, residents, or fellows.
• Direct personal experience in treatment for psychosis is strongly preferred.
