THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology (Ref: 512358)

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology (Ref: 512358), to commence on December 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department of Psychology was founded in 1968 and was the first department of psychology in Hong Kong.  The Department is represented by 20 faculty members with different areas of expertise, including clinical psychology/neuropsychology, cognitive psychology/cognitive science, neuroscience, educational and developmental psychology, as well as social/health psychology. Our faculty members engage in a broad range of research across the discipline, from basic human neuroscience to educational policy, as these different areas of research inform and complement each other.  This unique research environment enables the integration of different disciplinary areas into cohesive and empirically sound research programmes that are translated into measurable societal impact.  We also support open science and strive for high integrity, trustworthy, replicable, and reproducible research. We value diverse research methodologies. Further information about the Department can be obtained at https://www.psychology.hku.hk.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Clinical Psychology, with a demonstrated track record of research and teaching, or sound indicators of such potential. Clinical experiences that can inform their teaching will be an asset. Preference will be given to those with relevant professional practice in local settings. The appointee is expected to maintain an active research programme (including securing external research grants), and be responsible for teaching courses and supervising students at both graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as contributing to the administration of academic programmes.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salary tax in Hong Kong does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post.  Applicants should apply online at the University’s careers site (https://jobs.hku.hk) and upload (1) an up-to-date CV, (2) a research statement, (3) a teaching statement, and (4) state the contact information of three referees on the online application form. At least one of the referees should be able to comment on your research/teaching ability and your contribution to research/teaching in your department, while the remaining two should have knowledge of your recent academic or employment experience.  Enquiries about the post can be sent to the Chair of Selection Committee (hrpsyc@hku.hk).  Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until May 31, 2022, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.

The University is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to equality, ethics, inclusivity, diversity and transparency
