The University of Washington (UW) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and the HSR&D Center of Innovation (COIN) at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System are jointly recruiting one position for a full-time (100% FTE) VA Core Investigator and university faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT (Without tenure due to Funding) on the Faculty Scientist pathway with an anticipated start date of June 1, 2020. Assistant Professors in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences have a 12 month service period (July 1--June 30). The position will be based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) in Seattle and the primary duties will be to conduct research on integrating mental health into primary care settings. The successful candidate may also have clinical responsibilities at VAPSHCS, if desired. The intended length of appointment for this position is indefinite. The position does not include UW salary support, and is paid directly through the VA. This position will focus on research and clinical duties and does not have a dedicated teaching role. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is contingent on available funding. The successful applicant is expected to support themselves though existing grants, such as a VA Career Development Award or NIH K award.

The COIN (www.pugetsound.hsrd.research.va.gov) is a nationally-renowned health services research program located jointly in Seattle and Denver with an extensive portfolio of more than 100 research projects led by 35 core investigators, an annual budget of $20 million, and a training program for both MD and PhD postdoctoral researchers. The COIN’s objective is to conduct research to improve the delivery of health services to Veterans. The Division of Population Health, in the UW Department of Psychiatry has 25 investigators, a portfolio of 15 projects, an annual budget of $10 million, as well as and an NIMH funded T32 Fellowship Program for clinician scientists. The Division of Population health is dedicated to improving the health of the public by developing, testing, evaluating, and implementing effective behavioral health interventions across the entire spectrum of health care delivery.

 

Qualifications
We seek applicants with experience conducting research on integrating mental health into primary care settings, especially with respect to shared decision making. The degree requirement is a PhD in Clinical Psychology (or foreign equivalent) and clinical licensure. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

Job duties include performing distinguished scholarship securing competitive grant funding. The successful applicant will work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research team and be willing to work across institutions and to conduct research that will contribute to the COIN and UW priorities. The successful applicant will be eligible to apply for research funding from the extensive VA HSR&D research programs (www.hsrd.research.va.gov) as well as other funding sources.
