The Saban Research Institute at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, seeks to hire an outstanding scientist at the rank of assistant professor (tenure track). The candidate must have substantial experience in human imaging, with specific expertise in structural and functional imaging during prenatal development and in infants. Knowledge in computer and electrical engineering applicable to advanced data acquisition and analyses is highly desirable. One particular emphasis should be on determining the adaptive changes in brain and placental structure and function due to cardiac anomalies.

Applicants should have an outstanding record of research and scholarly accomplishments, including success in obtaining grants from the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. Applicants also should have record of establishing collaborations across disciplines. Those candidates with a strong interest in translational neuroscience are encouraged to apply.

Education Requirements: Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree.

 

Qualifications and Experience: Candidates must have the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate research experience
  • Computer engineering expertise
  • A track record of participating in a national research consortium
  • Direct evidence of establishing an extramurally funded, independent research program
  • Experience in mentoring trainees and early career investigators
  • A track record of excellence with first and senior author peer-review publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in working productively in a team science environment

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a nonprofit institution that provides pediatric health care to tens of thousands of children annually. The Saban Research Institute (TSRI) is a nationally recognized pediatric research enterprise that houses basic, translational and clinical research programs in the brain sciences and neurodevelopmental disorders, neonatology, oncology and blood diseases, cardiac, kidney, liver and gastrointestinal diseases, obesity and diabetes, stem cells and regenerative medicine, infectious diseases and diseases of the visual system. CHLA scientists are faculty at the University of Southern California, thus providing a large university research partner for facilitating innovative research efforts that impact children at our hospital and around the world.
