The Department of Pathology, National University of Singapore, invites applications for Clinician
Scientist as an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor on the Tenure Track, Yong Loo Lin School of
Medicine (NUS Medicine), NUS. The candidate will also continue his/her clinical practice in the National
University Hospital as a Consultant. The department has a strong clinical service culture combined with
research and intensive involvement in undergraduate, resident and fellowship training.

Purpose of the post

The candidate should bring world-class expertise in a field of histopathology. He/she will complement
the research strengths of the department, which already has contributing authors in the WHO
Classification of liver, haematolymphoid and head and neck tumours.
Main duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a Consultant in the Department of Pathology, NUH (0.3 FTE) and an
Assistant or Associate Professor in NUSMed (0.7 FTE). Duties as follows:
a. Lead a research program in the fields of gastrointestinal, pulmonary or breast pathology
b. Participate in teaching of undergraduate medical students
c. Teach Residents particularly in gastrointestinal, pulmonary or breast pathology
d. Reporting of histopathology and cytopathology cases
e. Attendance at clinico-pathology conferences
f. Perform administrative duties as directed by the Head of Pathology Department
Qualifications
• Have basic medical degrees and postgraduate qualifications in anatomical pathology that are
recognized by the Singapore Medical Council for registration as a Specialist Pathologist
• Have a PhD or equivalent in medical/biological sciences or related disciplines in one of the
abovementioned histopathology subspecialties, preferably with some post-doctoral
experience
• He/she should have published in high impact factor journals (e.g. Nature, Cancer Discovery,
Lancet Oncology, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation,
Gastroenterology, Gut, The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Journal of Pathology, etc.) as
evidence of his/her research capabilities
• The candidate will be required to set up an independent research programme in the
Department of Pathology, and will be expected to collaborate actively with clinicians and
scientists.
• Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to
detail; and
• Has knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS office, PowerPoint.
• Has established early track record of research excellence.
