One or more Tenure-Track Assistant Professorships in Interdisciplinary Health and Work Psychology

The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), plans to expand faculty staff by offering one or more positions as Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship in Interdisciplinary Health Psychology and Work Psychology. The department prefers applications within the areas mentioned, but also welcome application within all fields of psychology. The position(s) will be available from 1 August 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The hired candidate(s) will join a group of faculty members in Clinical and Health Psychology and will be part of and contribute to this research area at the Department. Exceptional candidates in research and teaching with an international network and a strong potential for collaborations at the Department and University levels are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Psychology covers a broad range of disciplines including Clinical and Health Psychology, Cognitive and Neuropsychology, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Personality Psychology, Psychology of the Humanities, Social Psychology, and Work- and Organizational psychology. The department has excellent facilities for various research approaches. Our staff comprises about 35 faculty, 10 postdocs and 50 PhD students. About 240 students graduate in the five-year Master’s program in psychology per year. Next to psychology, the Faculty of Social Sciences includes the Departments of Anthropology, Economics, Political Science and Sociology, as well as several active research centers that bring together researchers across disciplines.

Job Description  

General duties attached to the position(s) as Assistant Professor are:

  • Theoretical and empirical research within health psychology
  • Teaching, supervision, and examination of undergraduate and post-graduate students
  • Administrative tasks related to the positions
  • Attracting funding for applied and basic research within the fields of health and work psychology
  • Promoting societal impact of research-based health psychology in Denmark
  • Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society

Qualifications

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology or equivalent academic qualifications and:

  • The candidate has an academic standing showing internationally and/or national competitive research within health psychology, mental health research and/or work psychology and have a recognized potential to make a future impact.
  • The candidate has documented strong experience with applied research within health and work psychology, such as development of mental health promotion initiatives, research in implemented health psychological programs, or experience with contributing to, for example, public mental health policies or other social impact 
  • The candidate has experience with interdisciplinary psychological research of relevance to basic research in health psychology and/or work psychology.
  • The candidate has potential to contribute to the society through theoretical and applied innovation within health psychology and/or work psychology.
  • The candidate has a commitment to working as part of a team and assisting in the smooth running of the department and its teaching programs
  • The candidate has strong interpersonal and networking skills that enable the development of internal networks

Condidtions of employment

Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).  The annual salary as Assistant Professor is based on seniority and is within the range of DKK 412,378 – 434,179. In addition to the salary paid directly, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to the pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of the salary. Negotiation for additional supplements will be possible.

The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) have further agreed on a protocol that makes it possible for international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary. The positions will be covered by the tenure track programme at the University of Copenhagen. The program offers tenure-track candidates a contract of six years that can result in a tenured associate professorship.   • Documentation of teaching experience and evaluation, supervisory activities and pedagogical training (if any)
  • Documentation of the ability to disseminate information to and share knowledge with society at large (if available)

If publications marked by an asterisk (*) are the result of a joint effort, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual work must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed as well.

All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
