Assistant or Associate Professor in Psychology, fundamental processes of psychological interventions to promote well-being and behavior change, tenure track

The Department of Psychology is seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of  Assistant or Associate Professor tenure track position in psychology, fundamental processes of psychological interventions to promote well-being and behavior change,

The position starts on the 1st of August 2021 or as soon as possible after that. 

Tasks and qualifications

The position of the Assistant or the Associate professor at the Department of Psychology is closely related to the University of Jyväskylä’s strategic core field of Learning, teaching and interaction which is extended by the newly funded profiling action with a focus on behaviour change. The tenure track position is opened in the profiling area of Behaviour change, health, and well-being across the lifespan (BC-Well), which the University is committed to reinforcing in order to implement its strategy. The applicant is expected to strengthen the research area interaction in learning, education and therapy of the Faculty of Education and Psychology and the research of the Department of Psychology in psychological interventions to promote well-being.

The selected candidate is expected to have strong evidence of scholarship and expertise in psychology, particularly, in processes involved in psychological or psychotherapeutic interventions to promote well-being and behavior change. His/her research will focus on psychological, psychophysiological or neurocognitive processes that contribute to behavior change. Experience in one or several methodologies to assess intervention -related changes in above mentioned levels is considered an asset. The appointed person is expected to conduct an independent program of research in behavior change in the field of psychology, utilizing the research infrastructure provided by the Faculty of Education and Psychology and collaborating within the profiling action and with researchers in the University and externally.

The Assistant or Associate Professor will lead and develop interdisciplinary and multi-method research projects in psychology, as well as research-based teaching. The appointee will be expected to provide leadership and make a strong contribution to the research in behavior change. Duties will also include participation in the training of psychologists, as well as developing education and making a contribution to society.

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have an established profile of independent research and show potential to conduct high-level international research and to develop multidisciplinary research, acquire research funding and give research-based teaching.

Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have an excellent record of conducting and publishing international scientific research. The selected candidate must also have a well-established international cooperation network and experience in supervising doctoral dissertations, obtaining research funding, managing research, and research-based teaching. Applicants are required to have the potential to become a leader in a top research team, which has the potential to succeed in research funding (eg. EU, ERC, Academy of Finland). A position of Assistant Professor is defined for a fixed-term of 3 to 5 years and a position of Associate Professor is defined for a fixed-term of 5 years, (according to the tenure track model). At the conclusion of each fixed-term assignment, there will be an evaluation procedure to assess the employee's qualifications for promotion (the next phase of the tenure track model).

Salary

Salaries are based on job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees. There is a trial period of six months at the start of the period of employment.

4. A  maximum of five (5) main publications, numbered in accordance with the list of publications
5. A brief description of the applicant’s merits related to research, research management and funding and a research plan for the position, and a vision. (total max 4 pages).
6. Portfolio of Teaching credits (max. 3 pages).
