Description

The Department of Psychology at Yale University invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty appointmentin the area of neuroscience beginning July 1, 2024. We are interested in scholars who use neuroscientific approaches to study cognition. We are open to any area of neuroscience relevant to psychology, for example, perception and attention, learning and memory, problem-solving and decision-making, language and communication, motor planning and navigation, and sleep. An integrative approach that includes EEG, MEG, MRI, NIRS, TMS, VR,computational approaches, and/or animal models is welcome and supported by excellent facilities. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in neuroscience approaches to cognition in the Department of Psychology.Priority will be given to outstanding scholars who will contribute effectively to both the undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring programs of the University.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of hire.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (2 parts, see below), teaching statement, diversity statement, and up to three selected publications (published or unpublished). Recent PhDs and untenured candidates should also arrange for three letters of recommendation.  

Cover letter: The cover letter should include the applicant’s name, the title of the position the applicant is submitting materials for, a 3-5 sentence description of the applicant’s professional focus, and a brief comment on how the applicant views themselves as adding to the department.  

Research statements: The research statement should consist of two parts (uploaded as two separate documents). One part is the “past research statement” (1000 words max). This should summarize the applicant’s main research activities to date. The second part is the “future research statement” (500 words max). This should summarize the applicant’s plans for research activities over the next 5 years (i.e., What questions does the applicant want to tackle? What experimental approach(es) will the applicant use to address the research questions?).  

Teaching statement: The teaching statement (1000 words max) should include a summary of the applicant’s teaching style in (formal courses) and out (mentoring, supervision) of the classroom. The applicant should mention the types of courses they would be excited to teach.   

Diversity statement: The diversity statement (500 words max) should describe the applicant’s efforts to encourage diversity, inclusion and belonging in psychological science/academia, including past, current, and anticipated future contributions in these areas.
