Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor – Adult Inpatient Psychiatrist

The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for one (1) Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professors to serve as a teaching attending physician in the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center (MHTC). MHTC offers the opportunity to work with a culturally diverse patient population who suffer from severe mental illness. The applicant will also supervise general psychiatry residents, combined residents in IM/Psych and FM/Psych, as well as medical students rotating at the MHTC for their third-year psychiatry clerkship. Time is allocated for didactic teaching and supervision. In addition, the applicant will engage in scholarly or creative activities derived from and in support of their clinical teaching, professional and service activities. The candidates will also evaluate and treat their own patients.

The applicant would lead a multidisciplinary team in caring for 25 patients (on average). Team members include two PGY-2 residents, two third year medical students, three mental health clinicians (typically LCSWs or LMFTs), discharge planner, program coordinator, nurse and pharmacist. The PGY 2 residents act as the primary psychiatrists for the majority of patients on the team. The attending psychiatrist typically carries a small caseload (3-6 patients) on their own at any given time, in addition to supervising resident caseloads. The applicant would join a collegial, supportive group of attending psychiatrists at MHTC and would receive weekly supervision from the MHTC Medical Director.

Requirements for this position include an MD or DO, board certification in general psychiatry and a California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in the State of California). Teaching and supervisory experience of residents, fellows, and medical students is preferred, as well as experience supervising adult psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank in the health sciences clinical professor series, and the resulting hires will be at the assistant/associate rank in this series regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. The Department provides a stimulating teaching and academic environment.

Applications should be submitted by December 30, 2020 for initial consideration. However, the position will remain open until June 30, 2021 or until filed. Qualified applicants should upload a Curriculum Vitae, Statement of Teaching, Statement of Contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion along with contact information for 3 to 5 references online at:
