Job Summary:

Purdue University Northwest (PNW), College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director of Clinical Training, Department of Psychology.

This is a unique opportunity for a collaborative and committed leader with experience in doctoral-level clinical psychology programs to serve as the Director of Clinical Training. In this role, the Director will provide leadership for the continued development of the PsyD program with major responsibility for the development and implementation of a well-supported, high-quality program eligible for APA accreditation.

The ideal candidate will employ their strategic skills to build upon this new program as the Department and College continue to grow. Leadership, vision, team building, exceptional communication and collaboration skills, and a desire to create innovative approaches are required.

The Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Psychology and provides strategic academic leadership for the department and is responsible for enhancing its core missions of teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will understand the opportunities and challenges facing public universities in the current higher education landscape and possess the skills, leadership, and vision to advance the department in this complex environment.

This position is an academic year appointment, with a start date as early as January 1, 2026, with the opportunity for additional summer administrative planning, and is a tenure/tenure track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The position includes an excellent benefits package.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop curriculum and course schedule for the MS & PsyD degrees, in collaboration with the department chairperson

  • Develop clinical courses not already in Purdue’s Graduate Catalogue

  • Establish a clinic to train students and to provide therapy and psychological assessments to local residents

  • Apply for provisional accreditation from the American Psychological Association

  • Work with faculty to create the Graduate Student Handbook

  • With the Department chair, manage program’s day-to-day activities such as evaluating student performance, arranging meetings of program committees, advising and supervising students, and monitoring clinic and internship sites

  • Establish and maintain contacts with local, state, and federal agencies for possible funding, training, and research opportunities

  • Work with faculty to create the annual APA report and all other recurring accreditation reports

  • Write letters certifying students’ readiness to begin internships and subsequently to certify qualification for licensure

  • Remain informed on accreditation and licensure issues

  • Maintain own license to practice

  • Regularly review and update program policies and procedures


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD from an APA accredited program in Clinical Psychology

  • Eligible for licensure in Indiana as an HSPP

  • Experience teaching at the doctoral level as well as experience directing dissertations and supervising graduate students

  • Familiarity with PsyD programs

  • Evidence of resource generation in the form of successful grants and funding from federal or foundation sources

About the College:

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences serves over 1,400 undergraduate students and 170 graduate students across a wide range of programs.

In addition to the Psychology Department, other administrative units within the college include:
