The Division of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, in partnership with Ascension Seton Dell Children’s Medical Center (DCMC), seeks a pediatric or clinical child and adolescent psychologist with a proven track record of academic medical center leadership to serve as our Director of Pediatric Psychology at the Texas Child Study Center (TCSC)/Pediatric Mental Health Services at Dell Children’s Medical Center. TCSC consists of 21 pediatric psychologists, 11 child and adolescent psychiatrists, an APA-accredited internship and a pediatric psychology fellowship located at DCMC, a 248-bed Pediatric Level I Trauma Center, one of only five in the state of Texas. Our TCSC clinical educator faculty are highly collaborative and fully integrated throughout the hospital and affiliated medical specialty clinics. The Director of Pediatric Psychology will participate with hospital and department leadership in overseeing the continued expansion and coordinated clinical programming at TCSC.

Essential Functions

  • Work in partnership with the DCMC medical director of pediatric mental health and DCMC mental health service line director on all clinical, research, staffing, program development, recruitment/hiring, budgetary, and philanthropic initiatives
  • Participate on the DCMC Mental Health Steering Committee to monitor fiscal and budgetary performance of the mental health service line
  • Work in partnership with the division chief of psychology and departmental leadership in the evaluation of psychology faculty performance
  • Manage daily staffing, performance management, clinical competency, recruitment and retention of psychologists and associated subspecialty providers
  • Collaboratively design and implement value-based care delivery models that improve access to care, decrease wait times and achieve optimal treatment outcomes
  • Work with Ascension Seton financial and billing representatives to optimize mental and behavioral health service reimbursement
  • Increase extramural research grant funding within the division of psychology
  • Collaborate with psychology and psychiatry training directors in the training and supervision of  students, interns, residents and fellows
  • Provide culturally competent, evidence-based psychological services to children, adolescents and families
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with other schools at UT Austin and community providers


Required Qualifications:

  • Eligible for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor
  • Doctoral degree from an APA or CPA accredited program in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology
  • Completion of an APA or CPA accredited internship in psychology
  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child and adolescent or pediatric psychology
  • Unrestricted license to practice psychology in the State of Texas or ability to obtain prior to appointment
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)
  • Record of academic medical center leadership and achievement
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing culturally competent, evidence-based clinical services to children, adolescents and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with value-based care delivery and integrated practice models
  • Evidence of interest and experience in generating research in child and adolescent, pediatric, and/or clinical health psychology
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
