General Description

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences (http://pbs.jhu.edu/) at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a full-time, open-rank teaching faculty member, who will offer two undergraduate courses in the fall, two courses in the spring, and two in the summer.  We are looking specifically for a faculty member who will teach online summer courses: Introduction to Psychology and MCAT Preparation in the Social Sciences and in-person fall/spring courses in the areas of social and applied psychology, research methods, and statistics.  The faculty member will have a long-term, key administrative role in the department's educational mission in developing a robust set of summer course offerings and working with the JHU Summer and Intersession Programs on the staffing of those courses.  The faculty member will also work with other members of the undergraduate team on curriculum development and student advising.

The successful applicant will join three existing faculty in the Teaching Professor track in the department.  At JHU, teaching track faculty are full-time non-tenure track faculty members whose primary responsibility is to assist in the teaching mission of University. This position will be filled at the Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Teaching Professor, or Teaching Professor level with a renewable contract, commensurate with the candidate's experience.  Criteria for promotion within this track include excellence in teaching, publications on pedagogy, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation.  The salary is competitive, and benefits options include health and retirement plans. The start date is flexible and as early as January 1, 2022.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in psychology or a related discipline is required.  Ten or more years of teaching experience at the university level is strongly preferred.

  • During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
  • The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
