Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor – Correctional Behavioral Health

The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for two Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professors in the clinician/teaching series to serve as teaching attending physicians in its jail psychiatric program to which forensic fellows, residents, and medical students are assigned. The applicant(s) will be evaluating and treating patients who are in custody at the jail. The applicant(s) will also be supervising general psychiatry residents and medical students with their adult cases on the inpatient unit and in the general population. In addition, the applicant(s) will engage in scholarly or creative activities derived from and in support of their clinical teaching, professional and service activities. The jail psychiatric service is a highly valued clinical rotation site for medical students and residents because of the diversity of the patient population and the high quality teaching.


Requirements for this position include a medical degree, board certification in general psychiatry, a California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in the State of California) in addition to teaching and supervisory experience for residents, fellows, and medical students. Completion of ACGME Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship and Forensic Psychiatry Board Certification are preferable. Experience supervising child psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students is preferred. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank in the health sciences clinical professor series, and the resulting hires will be at the assistant/associate rank in this series regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.


The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. The Department provides a stimulating teaching and academic environment and serves a culturally diverse population.
