DescriptionThe Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Instructor position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of traumatic brain injury using in vivo large animal models and post-mortem human neuropathological examinations. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Responsibilities may include experimental design and data collection; leading and performing complex in vivo and in vitro experiments, including the use of small and large animal traumatic brain injury models; animal husbandry; neurotrauma, cell biology, and histological experimental knowledge and analyses (i.e., standard tissue processing, multiplex immunohistochemistry, microscope imaging, Western blotting, cell culture, biochemical assays, and biomarker development); analysis of post-mortem human neuropathology; management and oversight of protocol development; mentoring and teaching of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students; manuscript preparation and grant development. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to engage in exciting, high-impact research in traumatic brain injury and related neurodegeneration. They will be exposed to the established and highly clinically relevant in vivo and in vitro traumatic brain injury models, as well as the latest state-of-the-art technologies.
