The Cultural Psychology Lab at University of California, Santa Barbara, directed by Dr. Heejung Kim, is seeking applications for an open, full-time Junior Specialist position with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2020 . This will be a one year position with a comprehensive benefits package and with the possibility of renewal up to three years. Continuation beyond one year will be based on performance and availability of funding.The salary is based on UCSB’s salary scales.


Engage in specialized research in cultural psychology, in particular focusing on acculturation and health. Responsibilities will include: 1) traveling to communities in Southern California to recruit recent immigrants from Mexico and implementing study procedures; 2) contributing to administrative tasks of the lab, such as managing IRB protocols, translations of study materials and ordering and maintaining lab supplies to assure all research projects are executed properly. The successful candidate will also assist the PI with training of undergraduate research assistants.


A Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field is required at the time of application.


At least some research experience in psychology or a related field is required.

Being fluent in written and spoken Spanish is required, given that a main responsibility of the position is to recruit and interact with recently immigrated Mexican immigrants. Also, having a valid driver's license, access to a vehicle is required (driving costs will be reimbursed), and to have at least the minimum amount of auto insurance, given that the position requires traveling to different communities in Southern California.


Also, applicants with a good GPA will be preferred.
