# Job Description

We are offering two new Lecturer / Senior Lecturer posts at King’s College London, within the School of Neuroscience.   

 

Wolfson CARD is a vibrant department, with strengths in mechanistic and translational research related to neurological and sensory disorders. Current research areas include Spinal Cord & Brain Repair; Hearing Loss & Sensory Systems; Chronic Pain & Migraine. 

 

Under new leadership, Wolfson CARD is undergoing an exciting redevelopment and renovation, with ambitious plans for its future research vision and strategy. We are particularly looking to build capacity in our Spinal Cord & Brain Repair and Hearing loss & Sensory Systems themes although we will consider applicants whose research complements any of our three research themes ( [https://www.kcl.ac.uk/neuroscience/about/departments/card](https://www.kcl.ac.uk/neuroscience/about/departments/card)). Research fit will be an important selection criterion. 

 

A core strength of the Wolfson CARD is the parallel use of pre-clinical cell and in vivo models, alongside our world-leading expertise in neuroplasticity, interdisciplinary neuro-immune research, high-throughput sequencing technologies, drug discovery and advanced therapeutics.  

 

The successful applicants will join a dynamic research environment in which they will be supported to develop their academic careers. They will be expected to secure external grant funding to support an internationally competitive research programme, to contribute to teaching, learning and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and to make a positive impact more broadly within the wider KCL community.

This is a full-time  post**.**# Key responsibilities

**The successful candidate will be expected to:**

 

**Research**

- Conduct independent research and act as principal investigator and project leader 
- Provide research leadership within their research field, attracting independent grant funding and managing any dedicated research staff and postgraduate research students 
- Maintain a consistent track record of high-quality publication of research findings, developing an expert reputation in their own subject area  
- Enhance King’s College London’s international reputation through contributions to worldwide debate at national and international conferences  
- Contribute to developing and enhancing the research profile of the Department, Faculty and University, such as identifying potential income-generating programmes and collaborative partnerships 
- Help promote a collegiate working atmosphere and stimulating environment that will attract both further research staff of the highest quality, and excellent postgraduate research students 

 

**Teaching**

- Develop and deliver undergraduate / postgraduate courses in neuroscience or pharmacology to appropriate academic standards and in line with the expectations for King’s College London/IoPPN 
- Supervise undergraduate / postgraduate research projects   

 

**Administration/other**

- Carry out administrative duties necessary to support research and teaching activities  
- Engage in professional development as appropriate 
- Undertake other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Heads of Department

# Skills, knowledge, and experience 

**Essential criteria**  

**Lecturer**

1. Doctoral degree in a relevant biomedical field 
2. Proven ability to conduct high quality research 
3. Proven ability to lead and complete successful research projects  
4. Proven track record and/or potential to attract external funding 
5. Evidence of high-quality published research in an area aligned with our research themes 
6. Experience in undergraduate or post graduate teaching and/or successful supervision of research project students 
7. Excellent communication skills and ability to disseminate findings  
8. A commitment to developing and sustaining a high-quality student experience in the relevant subject and more generally within KCL 
9. An understanding of and commitment to enhancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion 

 
 

**Senior Lecturer (in addition to the above)**

 

1. Established ability to conduct and lead high-quality independent research and act as principal investigator and project leader 
2. Experience of leading and managing research teams 
3. Evidence of high-quality published research as senior author  
4. Proven track record of attracting external funding as principal applicant and leading successful research projects in an area aligned with our research themes 
5. Evidence of REF-returnable research 
6. Experience in undergraduate or postgraduate student supervision and teaching 
7. Ability to balance the pressures of teaching, research and administrative demands and competing deadlines 

**Desirable criteria**

1. Ability to help promote a collegiate working atmosphere and stimulating environment that will attract both further research staff of the highest quality, and excellent postgraduate research students 
2. Ability to develop and extend internal and external research collaborations 
3. Ability to identify potential income-generating programmes and collaborative partnerships 
4. Completion of appropriate training in equal opportunities, diversity, and inclusion 
5. Evidence of good citizenship 
6. Experience of industrial collaborations 
7. Leadership skills: ability to contribute to academic planning and strategic development
