Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Sport or Health Psychology

We are recruiting a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Sport and/or Health Psychology to join the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Sports Science at Manchester Metropolitan University was ranked 5th in The Guardian’s 2020 UK University League Tables and 1st for Student Satisfaction in the 2019 National Student Survey for Sports Sciences. We provide an excellent learning and teaching environment through innovative programmes delivered in Manchester at the All Saints, Platt Lane and Etihad campuses. Our portfolio of courses includes Sport and Exercise Science; Sport: Coaching and Development; Sport, Physical Activity and Health; Manchester City Football Club Community Football Coaching, as well as Masters and Doctoral level degrees in sports or health physiology, biomechanics, psychology, coaching and sports development.

Specialist research centres create a strong and ambitious research environment covering Musculoskeletal Science and Sports Medicine, Sports Policy and Sports Development amongst other themes. Our facilities include clinical imaging with DXA, MRI and ultrasound scanning; a wide range of physiological testing for sports and health applications; cell and molecular biology; biomechanics and gait analysis with motion capture; motor control and skill acquisition, psychological assessments including transcranial magnetic stimulation, mobile eye tracking, EEG, psychophysiological assessments, as well as excellent elite sports performance and coaching provision. We boast a large network of local authority, sports and health organisations located nearby to facilitate research and translation activities.

The successful candidate will join our team to advance sports and health-related research and teaching practices providing a high quality, supportive, but challenging curriculum fully aligned with the needs of sports and health organisations. Applicants should have experience of teaching sports or health psychology in a Higher Education setting or equivalent and be willing to complete a teaching qualification within 3 years.

Applicants for Lecturer must have an established research track record evidenced by high quality original peer-reviewed publications in sports, health, psychology or medical journals. Postdoctoral research and experience of making applications for external funding would be an advantage. Applicants for a Senior Lecturer position should additionally have experience of developing or Leading Programmes and/or a sustained record of generating external support, including financial support, for doctoral or postdoctoral research.
