The Department of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University

 

The Psychology Department at Nottingham Trent University is seeking an additional Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the fields of Counselling and Psychological Therapies to further strengthen our research and to meet the demands of new course provision and increased student numbers in our undergraduate, MSc and doctoral programmes.

 

Mental Health and Well-being Psychology at NTU

We have a strong commitment to wellbeing and mental health at all levels of our provision. On our undergraduate programme we have a mental health pathway for students who want to focus on this area. The third year of this course has a number of specialist mental health options which always attract a lot of students. We have successful and popular MSc courses in Psychological Wellbeing and Mental Health, Forensic Mental Health and Psychology in Clinical Practice. We employ practitioners and academics to deliver these courses and we place a high value on practice-based teaching. We welcome applications from practitioners who are looking towards a career in HE while still maintaining their links with practice.

We are planning to start a Psychology with Counselling undergraduate degree in September 2020 with a view to developing MSc programmes soon after. We want to add counselling and psychotherapists to our faculty of staff to broaden the range of courses we can offer and to strengthen our work in wellbeing and mental health. We want to widen the range of options available for students and to enhance their career opportunities.

 

The Department

You will be joining a very large, lively, diverse, collegiate and ambitious group with an excellent reputation for its theoretically informed impactful and applied research and its teaching provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

In the submission to REF2014 (Unit of Assessment A04, http://www.ref.ac.uk/) 60% of our research outputs were identified as internationally excellent or world leading and 100% of our research impact was recognised as internationally excellent with 73% described as world leading. Our commitment to teaching is shown by the collaboration of over 50 staff to create an introductory text for SAGE (2nd edition published in 2015, 3rd edition in press) and by our showing in the National Student Survey (NSS) where we have been in the top ten of UK Psychology departments for the last three years.  Ongoing strategic investment in terms of staffing numbers, the continuing professional development of staff, research support, laboratory facilities and funded PhD students continues to allow us to develop further and to meet the ambitions of the University’s strategic plan across the full range of our activities.

 

Applicants

Applicants will have be qualified to at least Masters level.  A good honours degree in Psychology or a related field (eligible for GBC with BPS) is essential. You should be an enthusiastic teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting students' development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mentoring and support for development in both teaching and research will be provided to appointees appropriate to their level of experience.  We expect you to be registered and/or accredited with a recognised counselling/psychotherapy/counselling psychology or related professional body (e.g. BPS, BACP, UKCP). It would be ideal if you hold a PhD or Professional Doctorate (or are working towards this).

We also welcome applications from under-represented groups and from people who are seeking a part-time contract that, for example combines practitioner work with lecturing.
