PhD stipend in neuropsychiatric disease models

PhD stipend in neuropsychiatric disease models

A time-limited 3-year PhD position at Department of Neuroscience is available as soon as possible

The aim of the project is to translate large scale exome data from patients with neuropsychiatric disease into novel disease models that allows for mechanistic investigations.

The PhD student will work on characterizing neurochemical and behavioral changes in novel mouse disease models for neuropsychiatric disease. Specifically, the PhD student will be part of establishing new genetic mouse models of mental disorders based on large scale exome sequencing data and investigate if disturbances in dopaminergic neurotransmission may underlie or arise from synaptic deficits elicited by knock-down, of disease susceptibility genes. The study will among other techniques use stereotactic surgery, immunohistochemistry, viral expression techniques, behavioural testing, and fast scan cyclic voltammetry.

In connection with the appointment to the post, special importance will be attached to the applicant having the following professional and personal qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, human biology or in an equivalent area
  • Experience with stereotactic injections and surgery on mice
  • Experience with behavioral tests on mice that are relevant for neuropsychiatric disease
  • Knowledge about or experience within the dopamine field
  • Experience with viral delivery systems (e.g. AAV)

All highly motivated, ambitious, and curious candidates, regardless of their personal background and status, are encouraged to apply.

Terms of employment
The employment as PhD fellow is full time and for 3 years.

It is conditioned upon the applicant’s successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.

The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the Faculty’s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
