Post Doc in Neuroscience

LBI, the newly founded KU Leuven Brain Institute, seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher, who will play a key role in the Institute. On the one hand, the post-doctoral researcher will assist in building up the Institute and its activities. On the other hand, the post-doctoral researcher will be involved in finding new funding and valorization opportunities and the development of outreach activities towards the public and media. The Leuven Brain Institute unites all neuroscience research at KU Leuven. The goal is to achieve excellence in neuroscience by joining forces to advance our understanding of the human nervous system, both normal and diseased. The LBI strive to generate scientific, societal and clinical impact at an unprecedented scale. Scientifically, the LBI fosters new collaborations and new research lines that span the entire scope of neuroscience, from molecules to behavior and from in vitro systems to patients, to go beyond the state of the art.


The post-doctoral researcher will occupy a central position in LBI, and will be involved in carrying out the plans for the Institute and building the Neuroscience community in Leuven. This will involve contributing to the profile of LBI, to the implementation of its various activities and its organizational structure, and to promote research and its applications within the LBI in collaboration with the thematic focus groups.  

More specifically, this includes the following activities:


-    proactively identifying funding opportunities for the focus groups and providing support for interdisciplinary applications
-    administrative support for potential spin-offs and patent applications coming from the focus groups
-    preparation of applications for IOF managers on the initiative of the focus groups
-    support for the preparation of large infrastructure applications

Internal organization

-    the organization of thematic focus groups and the Young Neuroscientists community
-    the organization of the thematic program Neuroscience in the doctoral school across the three Groups
-    inviting internationally renowned speakers
-    the newsletter of the LBI
-    the organization of retreats for members of the LBI around specific research topics
-    the organization of the meeting of all the LBI members
-    optimizing the use of core facilities for neuroscience research


-    maintaining contacts with international organizations such as the European Brain Council and FENS
-    organizing information about neuroscience research at KU Leuven for the media, referring journalists to the appropriate expert
-    maintaining the website of the LBI, including an overview of the expertise of all the members
-    presence on social media in order to promote neuroscience research at KU Leuven
-    improving the visibility of neuroscience research at KU Leuven by participating to international conferences
-    organizing transdisciplinary seminars and public debates where neuroscientists enter into dialogue with other researchers in related domains such as engineering, philosophy, economics, and ethics.


•    Ph.D. in Neurosciences or related fields
•    Knowledge and experience in neuroscience research, preferably in multiple subfields.
•    Affinity with working in an interdisciplinary setting.
•    Experience in project acquisition and management, and in education is an asset.
•    Outstanding communication, networking, organizational and management skills.
•    The ability to work independently as well as part of a research team.
•    Fluent in English, both written and oral. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.


We offer a 3-year fulltime position (renewable after each year) as a post-doctoral researcher at the KU Leuven Brain Institute.
