Position Overview

The Medical Faculty of Masaryk University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in computational neuroscience. The position is within the newly established Erik D. Fagerholm Research Group at the First Department of Neurology.

The group aims to develop robust computational frameworks to better understand information processing across multiple scales in neuronal systems:

  • Microscopic: Individual neurons

  • Mesoscopic: Neuronal circuits

  • Macroscopic: Entire brain regions

This research seeks to bring rigorous physical and mathematical frameworks into neuroscience and build bridges between computational and clinical neuroscience, particularly for the identification and intervention of epileptic seizures.

The candidate will have opportunities to co-supervise PhD students, pursue independent scientific ideas, and enjoy academic freedom typical of personal research fellowships.


Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) awarded within the past 7 years and at least 2 years of research experience outside the Czech Republic within the past 3 years (≥0.5 FTE),
    OR Ph.D. from an international institution awarded within the past 3 years

  • Publication record of at least three research outputs in the past three years, with at least two in Q1 journals (Web of Science)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience analyzing neuroimaging timeseries (EEG, fMRI)

  • Expertise in mathematical modeling of cross-scale neural systems

  • Experience implementing computational neural models using MATLAB, Python, or similar

  • Experience applying computational models to clinical applications, particularly epilepsy
