Appointment may be offered to candidates who have completed all degree requirements but have not formally received the degree, with evidence of completion and projected conferral date. For international candidates, immigration classifications (H-1B, J-1, etc.) generally require degree conferral prior to petitioning. Term of appointment is limited (see Section 5 of Postdoc Policy). Appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, may include teaching, and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career.
