Postdoctoral Fellow – Protein Aggregation and Neurodegenerative DiseaseJob #JPF02634
Recruitment PeriodOpen January 12th, 2021 through Monday, Mar 1, 2021 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) DescriptionThe Neurodegenerative Disease Research Laboratory at UC San Diego is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join our team dedicated to unravelling the mechanisms of neurotoxicity in prion and Alzheimer's disease. We use iPSC-derived neurons, primary neurons, state-of-the-art molecular and biochemistry techniques, gene therapy, and knockin mouse models to investigate the molecular basis for neuronal degeneration, with a focus on the endo-lysosomal pathway, autophagy, and synaptic excitotoxicity. We also study how protein aggregates spread from cell-to-cell within the brain. We are looking for highly motivated candidates to lead projects including the impact of intracellular prions on endolysosomal function and neurotoxicity. The benefits at UCSD are excellent. Our NIH-funded projects include understanding the mechanisms of prion spread between cells through the glymphatic pathway, selective neuronal vulnerability in prion disease, and mechanisms underlying neurotoxicity. The Sigurdson Laboratory is highly interactive with collaborators at UCLA, NIH, Linkoping University, Sweden, University of Hamburg, Germany, as well as locally at UCSD and at The Scripps Research Institute. Additional information can be found at http://sigurdsonlab.ucsd.edu. Candidates with demonstrated interest in neurological and protein misfolding diseases are encouraged to apply. Candidates with publication track record, including first-authored publications, as well as excellent scientific, organizational, and problem-solving skills are Preferred. The candidate MUST have a PhD in Neurosciences, Biochemistry, or Cell and Molecular Biology, MD, or DVM. Applications must be submitted through the University of California San Diego's Academic Personnel RECRUIT system at: https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/JPF02634. Applications should include a curriculum vitae , brief cover letter summarizing current research and career goals , statement of Contribution to Diversity and the names and contact information of 2-3 references . All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
