Research areaThe Department of Psychology is now looking for a post-doctoral fellow within the National Strategic Research Area Transport, which is an interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers at the Department of Psychology and Area of Advance (AoA)Transport at Chalmers University of Technology. The goal of the Strategic Research Area Transport is to contribute to the knowledge on green, safe, and efficient transport (both for people and goods), and how to achieve a society that takes responsibility for people´s lives, well-being, and the environment. Together with other social sciences, environmental psychology as a discipline gives the Strategic Research Area Transport a unique and important profile. ResponsibilitiesThe post-doctor is expected to take a leading role in planning, implementing, and reporting projects investigating sustainable transport. The goal is to contribute to knowledge that benefits green, safe, and efficient transport, both for people and goods, and people´s living conditions and well-being. Contributions to other, ongoing data collections, as well as analyses and reports of data that have already been collected may be included in the job. The position also includes taking part in the research group DEEP (Decisionmaking, Environmental, Economic and Political Psychology) at the Department of Psychology as well as in the interdisciplinary research-network for transports at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers. Lecturing and tutoring may also be included, up to but not more than 20% of the time. The postdoctor is expected to do most of the work on site in Gothenburg.
QualificationsQualified to apply are those with a Swedish doctoral degree, or the equivalent for foreign candidates, in psychology or in another social science, with a doctoral thesis that focus on environmental psychology, transport or other environmental issues. This qualification should be met, at the latest, by the time the employment decision is made. Mainly those with a doctoral degree not older than three years will be considered for the position (counting from the deadline for application to this position). Applicants should not previously have been employed as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Gothenburg for over a year in the same or a related subject area.
AssessmentThe applicant who, after an overall assessment of skills (based on merits, experience, and personal characteristics), is considered to have the best potential to carry out the tasks described above will be chosen. We are looking for a researcher who is driven and curious, who has a background in environmental psychology and has both some experience and a genuine interest to apply psychology to areas like consumption, logistics and transport. Skills in qualitative and quantitative research methodology, statistics, as well as psychometrics is meritorious. Very good knowledge in spoken and written English is a requirement. Knowledge in Swedish is meritorious. Personal characteristics such as the ability to plan, reliability, autonomy, ability to cooperate and good communication skills will be considered. During the selection process, interviews, work samples and references may become relevant. If used, these will also be part of the assessment.
EmploymentThe position is a limited-time appointment as a postdoctoral researcher for two years (with the possibility of a one-year extension), the scope is full-time, with placement until further notice at the Department of Psychology. First day of employment: as soon as possible or as agreed.
