The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) is one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes.  Part of the University of Queensland, the Institute is home to over 450 scientific staff led by 41 Group Leaders.  Research at QBI spans cellular, molecular, circuit and systems neuroscience. The importance of QBI's research is demonstrated through publications in the most prestigious international journals and a very high success rate in nationally competitive funding from the NHMRC and ARC.

About This Opportunity 

An exciting opportunity exists for a cognitive/computational neuroscientist to advance their career by conducting postdoctoral research with leaders in the field of brain development, computational psychiatry and neuropsychology, on the function of the corpus callosum in novel problem solving and decision making.  This position will lead a collaborative research project funded by the Australian Research Council working with Professor Linda Richards and Gail Robinson, Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland and Professor Peter Dayan, Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tübingen. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of neuroimaging scientists, clinical neuropsychologists, developmental neurobiologists and theoretical neuroscientists working between Brisbane and Tübingen.

Our goal is to understand how cognitive function is underpinned by the brain’s structural wiring.  The position will be located in Professor Richards’ laboratory which combines work with human research participants and animal models of corpus callosum dysgenesis. The project is supported by a study coordinator and outstanding neuroimaging and computational facilities and resources in Brisbane and Tübingen.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will hold a PhD in cognitive and or computational/theoretical neuroscience have demonstrated ability to produce high-quality scientific publications. Your excellent verbal and written communications and organisational skills, and the ability to work independently will help you excel in this role. Proficiency in statistical analysis and programming in matlab, R, python or equivalent is essential; experience in building and fitting reinforcement learning-like models of behaviour is highly desirable.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position until 31 December 2021 at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $69,342.89 - $92,782.26, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $81,131.18 - $108,555.25 p.a.
