Title: Postdoctoral Scholar - Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychology

Position Details

Position Description

The Forsyth lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington is seeking applications for a postdoctoral scholar to work on a NIMH funded study examining relationships between genetic risk profiles and clinical, cognitive, and structural MRI phenotypes in individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, relatives, and healthy individuals. We are a new lab focused on understanding genetic and neurobiological mechanisms underlying the development of serious mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for analyzing existing MRI and genetic datasets and writing manuscripts. Given the cross-disciplinary nature of this dataset, the postdoctoral scholar will be provided with close support and training from the PI and other UW resources to complete analyses, as needed.  This position is full-time (100% FTE), 12-months/year, with an initial term appointment of one year (12 months), with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience and employee benefits will be provided. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive departmental and lab climate. You can learn more about our department at:  Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in Psychology, Neuroscience, Genetics or a related field by the start of the appointment.  The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in using biological methods to investigate psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disorders or related phenotypes, have prior experience analyzing neuroimaging or genetic datasets (i.e., genotyping array or sequencing data), and be interested in playing a vital role in our growing lab, including helping mentor graduate and undergraduate trainees and staff. Candidates should work well independently and as part of a team, be detail-oriented, have prior experience working at the command-line and/or coding, and have strong data analysis and writing skills.

Applications should include: 1) a curriculum vitae; 2) contact information for two individuals who can serve as references; 3) a writing sample (e.g., representative publication reprint); 4) diversity statement, and 5) a cover letter describing research interests, relevant experience, and career goals. Applications must be submitted electronically through Interfolio.  Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.  Applications will be reviewed thoughtfully and will remain under consideration until the position is filled.
