About the position

A permanent position is available as professor in Special Education at the Faculty of Education. We encourage applicants that endeavour to conduct research and teaching of high standards that can strengthen the Special Education group further to apply.

The position is connected to the master-program in Special Education, but may also contribute in other studies and research-activities at the faculty.

Areas of responsibility and duties

The work will largely comprise of further development of research in the field and ensure quality of teaching at all levels. The person appointed will also play a key role in the work on assessing and further developing study programmes.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • carry out relevant research and development work
  • supervise students
  • initiate and follow up applications for external funding
  • initiate and participate in research group activities
  • support colleagues in their research
  • contribute to the development of national and international networks

Qualifications and qualities

Formal qualifications required:

  • PhD/Master in Special Education or closely residing field
  • experience with Research and Development within core areas related to the Master Programteaching experience
    • Specific learning difficulties
    • Social and emotional difficulties
    • Counselling and innovation in Special Education
  • experience in supervision, preferably at master’s and PhD level
  • good written and oral skills in English

We also emphasise:

  • recent international publications within specific learning difficulties and/or social and emotional difficulties
  • experience with international research networks
  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language*
  • good digital skills in relevant systems
  • documented experience in the use of digital teaching methods

Personal qualities

  • good communicative and collaboration skills with students and colleagues
  • good ability to inspire and motivate
  • goal-directed and focused in regards to research and publishing

General qualification requirements

If the university college's hiring authority cannot hire a qualified applicant in a position as a professor, it may be relevant to offer temporary employment as associate professor for up to 2 years with requirements for qualification for a professorship within the period.

*If the person appointed lack sufficient language skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, it will be required to document his/her skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within three years after appointment. This is to be documented by passing the Bergen test with a score of 450 points.

Appointment to a permanent position requires documented teaching qualifications at the higher education level. If you lack such qualifications, the appointment can be made conditional for up to two years. The university college offers a special Higher Education teaching training course.

Terms and conditions of employment and pay

  • The salary for the position is according to individual agreement within the pay range NOK 695 500 - 871 300 (Professor). A statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.

The Faculty of Education at Østfold University College is located inn Halden. The faculty is growing and an attractive place to work - today we have over 1,900 students and 140 employees. In addition, we collaborate with employees in nearly 140 kindergartens and schools across the county regarding training of our students.
