Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience (Tenure Track)

We seek a senior-level candidate whose research is focused on ischemic stroke translational studies, with experience exploring the mechanisms between basic and translational research and experience in clinical applications including therapeutic trials, with the aim of working toward development of new therapies. 

Specifically, the individual would develop a strong pre-clinical stroke program and lead state-of-the-art therapeutic trials for ischemic stroke.

Applicants for this tenured position at the level of full professor should have a proven track record of continued external funding, an outstanding publishing history in top journals in their field of expertise, and experience overseeing large clinical trials.  The individual should be a recognized expert, at national and international levels, a leader in the field of therapy for stroke.

The successful candidate is expected to: 1) bring and maintain a robust extramurally funded research program in the fast-growing department of Physiology and Neuroscience and the state-of-the-art Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute, and publish research manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals; 2) hold a secondary appointment in the department of Neurology, participating in stroke clinic for up to approximately 40% of the time; 3) participate in medical and/or graduate student education, and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and residents; 4) participate in departmental governance and university service, and contribute to the highly collaborative and innovative environment within the scientific community at USC.


Degree and area of specialization

MD or MD PhD with specialization in neurology and outstanding research accomplishments in the field of pathophysiology and treatment of ischemic stroke.
