About our team

The Department of Psychology offers undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, as well as supporting a diverse portfolio of research themes. As part of the ambitious development plans for Psychology during 2016, we are aiming to recruit colleagues with a passion for teaching, and who have research interests that complement those of existing staff members. We invite applicants interested in joining a newly constituted School comprising other cognate social science disciplines with over 150 academic staff and more than 5,000 students based at our three campus locations in Edinburgh, Dubai and Malaysia.

Applicants with specialisms in any field of Psychology may apply, although we are particularly keen to hear from people with expertise in Social Psychology and Work & Organizational/Occupational/Business Psychology. Standard duties for all permanent posts include teaching, research and administration.

The post holder will (appropriate to level):

  • Undertake personal research (complementing and building on existing Departmental interests and taking advantage of its interdisciplinary nature) and produce publications of high quality in high impact journals.
  • Further disseminate research outputs using an appropriate range of media including external reports, conference presentations and short courses for knowledge transfer;
  • Engage with existing research activity and be involved in the development of further research groups.
  • Promote more generally the research culture and activities of the Department and University through collaborative work across the academic sector.
  • Provide input into academic strategic planning in areas such as programme development (at undergraduate and post graduate levels) and research strategy.
  • Act as academic mentor to undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the management and administration of departmental activities.

Key duties and responsibilities

Education, Qualifications and Experience

You will hold a PhD in Psychology, or equivalent, and have an interest in delivering a high-quality learning experience to undergraduate and, occasionally, postgraduate students. Teaching will involve a broad range of courses, as the post holders will be required to complement and support the current academic staff. Accordingly, we are looking for candidates who are flexible in terms of areas they will cover. All appointees will undertake basic administrative duties.
