Postdoctoral researcherThe University of Helsinki – among the best in the world The Institute of Behavioural Sciences, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for the research project “Developmental and experimental perspectives to sleep-regulation in adolescence and in young adulthood” from 1 June 2016 to 31 December 2018. Funded by the Academy of Finland, the project examines developmental risk factors as well as interaction between biological, psychological and behavioural factors behind the sleep-regulation difficulties of adolescents. The project also tests a new intervention with adolescents experiencing sleep disorders. The project uses two existing longitudinal cohorts and develops new, population-based material on adolescents with sleep disorders. The appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher is expected to actively participate in the collection of research material, its statistical management and the completion of statistical analyses as well as to write research articles for publication in international journals in sleep research, psychology or medicine. The postdoctoral researcher will also participate in the joint activities of the research group in developmental psychology. According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, the appointee shall hold an applicable doctoral degree and be able to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses and dissertations. The appointee must also have good cooperation skills and the ability to take the initiative and work independently. Research related to sleep studies, developmental psychology and/or intervention studies will be considered an asset. The postdoctoral researcher must be proficient in Finnish or Swedish. He or she must also have at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in the other national language of Finland (Finnish or Swedish). Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from this requirement. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must also have good English skills. The assessment of applicants will take into account not only their scientific publications, but also their scientific work more generally. The salary will be based on level 5 of the requirement scheme for teaching and research positions in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
