Interview Date: See advert The School of Psychology runs a highly regarded Practitioner Doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology and welcomes a Part-time Teaching Fellow (0.6 FTE/21.6 hours per week) to join the Course team. The PsychD in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology at Surrey provides comprehensive three-year full-time training. The completion of the degree confers eligibility to apply for Chartered Psychologist status with the BPS and for registration as a Counselling Psychologist with the HCPC. Our philosophy is firmly rooted in humanistic values and a relational attitude towards clinical practice, and focuses on in depth training in Person Centred and Existential Approaches in Year 1 and Psychodynamic Theories and Practice in Year 2. Trainees are also exposed to Cognitive Behaviour Theories (CBT) in Year 3, as CBT constitutes the working modality of our training. In addition the Doctorate offers trainees a range of learning experiences that include workshops, seminars, lectures, placement experiences, clinical and research supervision, and an experiential group. The role encompasses the selection, negotiation and monitoring of practice placements where in collaboration with other team members you will support and monitor the clinical progress of our trainees and you will co-ordinate and conduct mid-placements’ visits. There will also be contribution to training, teaching, research and clinical supervision as well as assessment of trainees with the main focus of the post on placement/practice activity. You will therefore have good contacts with other practitioners in organisations and will be proactive in developing the process of seeking and maintaining contacts with services/providers. In addition the post holder will contribute to the academic and research input of the training (i.e., teaching and research supervision of doctoral level theses). In line with BPS and HCPC requirements the candidate will be either a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with HCPC and BPS (Division of Counselling Psychology) or a Psychotherapist registered with the UKCP, BPC, and/or BPA. There is a wide range of clinical experience within the team including in prison services, personality disorder services, NHS psychotherapy services and independent practice. In addition, the successful candidate would be joining a team that has a wide range of research interests including developmental psychology, phenomenology, intersubjectivity, embodiment, consciousness studies, gender identity, sexuality, ethics, and both qualitative and quantitative expertise.
