PhD Position in Cognitive and Affective Science University of Lille, Cognitive and Affective Science Laboratory
DescriptionPhD position at the Cognitive and Affective Science laboratory (SCALab), UMR CNRS 9193 & Université de Lille, France.
The aim of research project will be to explore how the brain computes agreement relation between words (for example, between a pronoun and a verb). At present, many studies have provided experimental evidence for the role of predictive mechanisms in real-time language processing (for review, Kutas, Delong, & Smith, 2011). According to the notion of predictive coding (Baldeweg, 2006; Friston, 2005; Friston & Kiebel, 2009), the project will examine the nature of representations and neurocognitive processes in agreement processing. To this end, we propose a series of studies in electroencephalography and magnetoencephalography. The sucessfull candidate will work on a project related to the nature of representations and neurocognitive processes in agreement processing at the SCALab (http://www.scalab.cnrs.fr/index.php/fr/). From the second year of PhD contract, the candidate will make a long stay at the NYU’s Morphology Lab (New York University). Expected expertise: -Master's degree in Psychology or in Cognitive Science or in Cognitive Neuroscience -Technical skills: EEG, MEG or other neuroimaging techniques -Scientific rigour -A strong interest in neurocognition of language and speech -Good knowledge of French and English Conditions: 1,750 euro per month (gross salary) and support for the fees of international mobility Applicants should send (1) a detailed CV, (2) a cover letter that describes their motivation, research interests, experience and career goals, (3) report card and (4) at least one letter of reference person before the 1st July 2016.
