PhD Student in Neurology Ghent University, Department of Neurology

Description

The Department of Neurology and the Department of Electronics and Information Systems (ELIS) at Ghent University (Belgium) are seeking to fill two PhD positions in the preclinical epilepsy research and small animal functional imaging. The fellows will join a research project situated in the context of an interdisciplinary research partnership between the Laboratory for Clinical and Experimental Neurophysiology, Neurobiology and Neuropsychology (LCEN3) and the Medical Image and Signal Processing (MEDISIP) research group (http://medisip.elis.ugent.be) on imaging and modulating abnormal brain networks in the epileptic rodent brain. The project is supervised by Prof. dr. Paul Boon (LCEN3) and Prof. dr. Christian Vanhove (MEDISIP).
This preclinical research project includes small animal functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), video-EEG monitoring, intracranial electrophysiology, signal analysis, deep brain stimulation (DBS), drug therapy, chemogenetics (DREADDs) and optogenetics in rodent models for epilepsy. Applicants should have a background in biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering and have a strong interest in the domain of animal research, electrophysiology and/or fMRI data analysis.
