Instructor in Psychology Vancouver Island University, Department of Psychology

Vancouver Island University's Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position, Psychology Instructor. This temporary, part-time appointment has activity on both our Nanaimo and Cowichan campuses and will be made effective January 2/17. 

The Position: 
The Psychology Instructor will be required to instruct course(s) outlined below; prepare course materials; provide student support; conduct student evaluation, grading and record keeping; liaise with department chair; participate as an active member of the instructional team.
  • PSYC 440 Skills and Techniques in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
This course introduces common counseling techniques and begins to develop basic practice skills. The focus will be on client-centred techniques, such as developing the therapeutic relationship and empathic listening, as well as cognitive-behavioral interventions.
  • PSYC 308 Cultural Psychology.
Cultural psychology is concerned with ethnocentrism in psychology and aims to reveal the cultural influences on processes of perception, cognition, social behavior and interpersonal relations, self/identity, personality, gender roles, and abnormality. This course explores these issues and provides the student with a greater sensitivity for people from different cultures. 

What You Bring to the Role:
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching psychology at the post-secondary level.
  • Ph.D. or near completion in Psychology (or Educational Psychology -- PSYC 440) from an appropriately accredited institution.
