Psychopathologies associated with emotional and social dysfunctions such as anxiety disorder and depression represent a high personal and socio-economic burden. Goal of our research efforts is yielding in-depth insights into molecular, neuronal and neuroendocrine aspects of emotion dysfunctions while having in view the complexity of the underlying neuronal mechanisms in an interdisciplinary perspective. The GRK "Neurobiology of emotion dysfunctions" aims at providing outstanding PhD students with a specialized but interdisciplinary programme that offers tandem supervision by two principal investigators. We seek to apply cross-discipline research, making use of advanced genetic, epigenetic, electrophysiological, neuroendocrine, and behavioural methods at molecular, cellular and systemic levels with the goal of uncovering basic principles of emotion dysfunctions, which will be directly translated into human studies. Doctoral researchers of the GRK will perform cutting-edge research in an interdisciplinary environment. Working language is English. International cooperation is promoted by an active guest-scientist program and a research stay abroad in labs of cooperation partners.
