Position Description


Part-time lecturers are sought for the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year in the Department of Psychology. The Department is interested in candidates who could teach empirically-based courses that include specialized advanced undergraduate electives in the following sub-areas: Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and Cognition/Brain/Behavior, with an especially high need for courses in the social or clincial science areas. We are also searching for an instructor for the undergraduate research methods course. In addition to offering courses and evaluating course examinations and papers, lecturers may be asked to direct and evaluate senior theses and to advise students on research and career interests.

 

Lecturer positions are for one semester or one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to a total of six semesters. Appointments are dependent upon faculty vacancies. Appointments may be made at varying percentages of time (one course equals 25% time for the year); no full time lecturer positions are anticipated for 2017-18. Lecturers appointed to a half-time position may be eligible for Harvard benefits.

 

Basic Qualifications


Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Psychology or an equivalent terminal degree by the expected start date.
 

Additional Qualifications


All candidates must have a strong teaching and research background, as well as a Ph.D. in Psychology or very closely related field (e.g. Cognitive Science, EdD in Human Development)

 

Special Instructions


Review of applications begins Feburary 19, 2017 and continues until March 15th or until the positions are filled (CVs submitted after March 15th will be considered only if openings remain). Interested candidates are required to submit:

1) A cover letter describing your experience and interest in the position to which you are applying.
2) A curriculum vitae
3) Statement of teaching interests, including teaching philosophy, goals, methods, and prior experience
4) Teaching materials, including evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., copies of course evaluations)
5) Contact information for at least three people to submit letters of reference on your behalf, who will be contacted by the system to upload references
6) Applicable only for those candidates who have not yet received the Ph.D.: A letter from your advisor confirming that you will receive your Ph.D. by the expected start date
