Duties and Responsibilities


The Division of Psychology and Language Sciences, within the Faculty of Brain Science, wishes to appoint a new Teaching Fellow to support its MSci programmes (MSci Psychology and MSci Psychology and Language Sciences). These are a new programmes now recruiting for 2017-18. The programmes will run in parallel, sharing teaching and administration. Students will opt to take either the Research route (based in a research lab within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences) or the Applied Route (based on an external placement). The post provides the exciting opportunity to be involved from the outset in programme development.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver and assess a new module ‘Behavioural Research in Applied Settings’, to be delivered to students on MSci Psychology and MSci Psychology and Language Sciences. They may also be responsible for co-developing and teaching a new ‘Applied Statistics’ module sometime in the future. The postholder will play a leadership role in relation to oversight and monitoring of placements, for liason with placement providers, and will provide supervision of applied research projects. In addition, the postholder will develop, deliver and assess teaching on the undergraduate programmes BSc Psychology and BSc Psychology and Language Sciences as required and within their area(s) of expertise. The post holder needs to have experience in, and be able to teach, quantitative as well as qualitative research methods and statistics.


They will be expected to spend approximately 80% of their time on teaching or teaching related activities and approximately 20% of their time on a range of teaching-related research, course promotional and administrative duties. These percentages are indicative only and may evolve during the contract.

 

This post starts on 1st September 2017.


Key Requirements


The successful candidate must have a PhD in Psychology. The successful candidate must have experience of teaching and research in applied psychology, and assessment of student work. The post-holder should also have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
