The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
PhD Research Fellowship in Neuroimmunology

We seek an enthusiastic co‐worker as PhD candidate in our research group (Clinical Neuroimmunology Research Group) at the Department of Immunology. The position is associated with the Division of Diagnostics and Intervention, University of Oslo, and the lab is located at the Department of Immunology, Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet).
The focus of our research is the immune response in the central nervous system in multiple sclerosis, and the research environment at the Department of Immunology is dynamic and stimulating. The main supervisor of the candidate will be MD/postdoc Andreas Lossius. Co‐supervisors are Prof. Trygve Holmøy, Akershus University Hospital and Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo, and Prof. Frode Vartdal, The Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo.
Job Description
The project addresses the role of B cells in in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with multiple sclerosis. The PhD candidate’s tasks will include laboratory work within molecular biology, protein chemistry, cellular immunology, data analysis, and elaboration of scientific papers.
The position is funded by a grant provided by the Norwegian Women's Public Health Association, and the project period is three years. The purpose of the PhD Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellow must fulfill the requirements of and take part in the PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo and is expected to complete the degree within the set fellowship period. Requirements
The candidate should hold a master/diploma level degree or an MD. Suitable applicants have a master’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or immunology, or physicians/MDs that have an interest in translational research. Training will be provided, but previous experience with laboratory work within molecular biology is an advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a prerequisite. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed upon the academic and personal ability of the candidate to complete the project within the given time frame and write a PhD thesis under supervision.
