project

The goal of this project is to investigate how inhibition is associated with the development of arithmetic in primary school children and in children with dyscalculia, a learning disorder with a neurobiological cause, which is characterized by serious difficulties in the computing development. This research includes behavioral experiments and brain (fMRI) in children. The project builds on the ongoing research on individual differences in the cognitive and neural determinants of mathematics and the development of cognitive control and executive functions.

Profile

Candidates must have a Master's degree or PhD in Psychology, Educational Sciences, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or relevant related discipline. They must have a strong affinity with experimental psychological research and excellent statistical knowledge. Candidates should have a strong interest in cognitive development and cognitive neuroscience. Experience with fMRI and / or connectivity analysis is an advantage but not a requirement. Final-year students are encouraged to apply for this job. Because this project involves collecting data in young children, a good knowledge of Dutch is desirable.
