University Lecturer / Senior University Lecturer in Neuroscience

Aalto University School of Science is looking for a

 

University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer in Neuroscience

 

to work at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering (NBE http://nbe.aalto.fi/en/ ). With its ca. 110 faculty and staff members, NBE is strongly dedicated to research in the areas of neuroscience and neurotechnology. NBE hosts a state-of-the-art neuroimaging infrastructure, including MEG and MRI dedicated to research. The post will be filled on a fixed term or a permanent basis at university lecturer or senior university lecturer level on the Aalto University lecturer track depending on the competence and merits of the applicant.

 

Job description


The post holder is primarily responsible for teaching of neuroimaging to master-of-science and postgraduate students through lecturing, supervising exercises and assignments, and participating in curriculum coordination and development. Subject matter includes the operational and physiological principles of neuroimaging methods (primarily MEG and fMRI), experimental design, conducting imaging experiments in practice, applying advanced data analysis methods, and critical interpretation of the results. The lecturer will also have a key role in organizing international MEG trainings. While the emphasis of the post is on teaching, the post holder is also expected to conduct research and follow the development of the neuroimaging field.

 

Requirements


The prospective applicants should have a doctoral degree in a suitable field, pedagogical studies as well as teaching experience. The post holder must have demonstrated hands-on expertise in experimental work using MEG as well as fMRI and preferably also multimodal MEG–fMRI, and in versatile data analysis using activation and connectivity measures, in addition to being well versed in the underlying principles. The applicant’s research merits will also be taken into account in the selection process. Fluent spoken and written English is mandatory as most of the courses are taught in English. Good command of Finnish and/or Swedish is an additional merit.

 

Salary


Salary will be defined according to Aalto University´s payroll system, and the salary will be determined according to the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.

 

Working time


Aalto University’s teaching and research staff belongs to the total-working-hours system comprising of 1,624 working hours per annum.
