Two PhD students in neuroscience

Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

At the department, approximately 400 researchers, teachers, doctoral students and administrators work with different neurosciences. Through different education programs and courses, both at the undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate level, we spread these skills to a wide range of future professional specialists - such as doctors, physiotherapists, logopedians, nurses and biomedical researchers.

Work assignments / Project description: The research projects relate to cognitive, behavioral and genetic data analysis where the ability to understand medical and neurobiological relationships is of great importance. The studies can affect different experimental models, both in humans, rodents and banana flies. We have set up a neurometabolic laboratory for human tests with questions about mental health, sleep, obesity and anorexia.

Background as a physician, biomedicine or equivalent and previous experience with biostatistics or programming is meritorious, such as experience in research in neuroscience and medicine.

The research group consists of more than 30 employees and is led by Professor Helgi Schiöth at the Functional Pharmacology Unit. The group is very productive and the overall impact of published work is high and several of the scientific work has attracted major international attention with high numbers of citations. Professor Helgi Schiöth is on Thomson Reuters list of the world's most influential researchers. The working environment is to be regarded as multidisciplinary at a high pace, what many ambitious students are looking for. We are looking for people with a good ability to work with several projects at the same time and who are very interested in significant qualifications during the PhD student's day.

Qualification Requirements: We are looking for people who have completed a degree of at least 180 higher education credits in any biological discipline. Applicants should be able to express themselves well, both verbally and in writing in English.

The doctoral student must mainly devote himself to his / her own postgraduate education within the agreed research period. Other employment at the institution, which relates to education and administrative work may be included, but shall not exceed 20%. For the appointment of the PhD student site, the holder is required or will be admitted to postgraduate education, where the degree of ability to apply for postgraduate education is crucial.
